Belmont Shore Residents Association MINUTES EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING March 12, 2009 The meeting was called to order by President Mike Ruehle at 6:00 pm. The members of the Executive Board present were: Charles Folks, Marvin Jones, Jim Lazarus, Secretary Jeff Miller, President Mike Ruehle, and Treasurer Christopher Van Horn. Executive Board members Tim Clark, Aileen Colon, Vice President Terence Endersen, John Forstrom, and Larry Jordan were absent and excused. Twenty-one additional BSRA members and visitors were present. Secretary Jeff Miller reported the following correspondence received: A letter of thanks from Glenda Williams, Acting Director of Library Services, for the recent donation of $300 from BSRA to the Bay Shore Library; two new membership applications; and two membership renewals. Pursuant to the directive of the Executive Board at the February meeting, letters of opposition to the liquor license application by Lucille's restaurant were sent to the California Alcoholic Beverage Control and to the City of Long Beach Planning Commission. Also given was a report of the details of the BSRA incorporation process with the California Secretary of State. Librarian Natalie Beam of the Bay Shore Library announced the March and April events scheduled at the library. Treasurer Christopher Van Horn reported the checking account balance is $4,470.60. Commander Renaud and Officer Hunt of the LBPD spoke to various policing issues which were raised, including trash pickers, auto burglaries, smoking violations, and homeless persons. Joe Toney of Councilmember DeLong's office announced the next Third District meeting on March 19 and an informational meeting about the Seventh Street freeway ramp construction, yet to be scheduled. Timothy O'Reilly of the City Prosecutor's office presented the IMPACT award to Jim Ostach, for his volunteer service. He also discussed some of the opportunities for community service in lieu of prosecution for certain offenders. Nancy Buchanan, BSBA representative, announced the schedule of some future BSBA events. Treasurer Christopher Van Horn announced the current participants in the "Shop Local" campaign: Dr. Gallagher and Olives Gourmet Grocer. Treasurer Christopher Van Horn spoke about the issues being addressed by the Beach Committee: restrooms, rebuilding of Leeway Sailing Center, rebuilding of Belmont Plaza Pool, fire pits, a kite surfing concession, and the breakwater. An audience straw poll did not indicate support for fire pits on the beach. President Ruehle spoke to the application by Lucille's restaurant for a full liquor license. He will note the opposition by the BSRA Executive Board in his next newsletter. Discussion of the issue followed, and a reminder was given that the application will be heard by the Planning Commission on March 19. President Ruehle announced the results of his survey concerning a Community Facilities District for residential parking. The meeting was adjourned at 7:58 pm.
